Big Cleanup

Big cleanup of the Châteauguay River: 2014 Edition

Another success!

Last May took place the Big Cleanup Châteauguay under the supervision of Jean Chalifour. Approximately 65 volunteers participated, 15-yard of waste and 5 yards of recovery were collected over a distance of 10 km.

Brook St. John, which is the most important spawning for Lake St. Louis and a must see each year, was relieved about 8 yards of waste.

Saturday, 7 June, a group of 5 people cleaned a section of 1.5 km to ‘’the Bay of Pigs''. They have picked up the equivalent of a 4 'x 8' trailer, about 15 bags of waste and a gateway 30 in. x 12 feet!

We would like to thank especially all volunteers without whom this task might not have been accomplished, the Junior Civitan de Châteauguay, the municipality of Châteauguay, Maclean Power System, Transbus and Château hardware.

Sainte-Martine, led by Jean-François Riendeau was still in the race! About twenty citizens came at Gaëtan-Montpetit Park on May 17. These volunteers have put their efforts in common and did more than their share to pick up no less than the equivalent of 4 pickup truck boxes.

The ARRC says a big thank you all !

Big cleanup of the Châteauguay River: 2013 Edition

May 18 was the great cleanup of the Châteauguay River. This year, the territory is enlarged: after Châteauguay and Mercier, Sainte-Martine has been added.

Châteauguay was under the supervision of Jean Chalifour. Has found several LPP students accompanied by Louise Brunet, the McClean System company with many of its employees (it must be said that it is they, who have made the dock installed in Mercier, fishers can fully enjoy), several families, elders, Mayor, two elected officials: Mike Gendron and Mr. Doyle as well as Member Sylvain Chicoine.

All were unanimous in saying that all citizens must get involved in stopping to throw everything to the river. Note that for the past 6 years, octogenarian friendly couple, dedicated to the cause, attend ther BBQ : Claire and Gérald Yelle. The nurse Michèle, her hsubund the observer and France the Acrobat were also there. The Transbus company lent for a second consecutive year, its bus and its driver, Mr. Lauzon. He carried volunteers back and forth and shared discoveries and meal withe them. They were nearly a hundred. As is his habit, boulevard Industriel, Castle Hardware, provided its wishfull collaboration.

Mercier had his supervisor Alderman Daniel Pilon who is not at his first experience. But the youth stole the show, Cadets and the Maison des Jeunes  They were 20. Already at 8:00 AM, all were at work. Despite all the publicity that the municipality has made adults remained in bed. The Young ones would have liked to find their relatives, but it will be for the next edition in 2014.

Sainte-Martine, led by Jean-François Riendeau was new in the race. Thirty people showed up. Everything went laughing and having fun. The Maison des Jeunes, Alain Gagnon, Alderman, Anne Quash and the Raman family were part of the "gang". IGA Primeau and COOP des Frontières collaborated by providing meals and accessories for this first great cleanup.

Each of the three municipalities offered its collaboration: a van to pick up garbage, water bottle and gloves.

The ARRC say THANK YOU to you all and appreciate all these little things that we do together.
